In our fifth and final part of our Beginner’s Guide to Digital Asset Management, we look at Implementing DAM. By now you should have a good understanding of DAM, its benefits, and what to look for in platforms.

To bring it all together, we look at a handful of high-level pieces you’ll need to know about when implementing your new DAM program.

Now that you understand what DAM is, have a better idea what platforms offer, and are aware of the importance of process, it’s time to look at implementing DAM! From metadata tagging to asset migration to organization of your DAM we take a look at a series of steps you’ll want to take to ensure you maximize the value of those assets.

Implementing DAM

Metadata Tagging

Revolutionize your search results by working through your priority assets and tagging images with keywords.

Asset Migration

Once you have obtained a new DAM platform, gather your assets together. Take this time to apply your new standards to your assets.

Artificial Intelligence

Partner with your DAM platform or a DAM consultant to create a model for artificial intelligence to automatically tag incoming images with some keywords.

Deduplication

Gather assets together and take time to analyze assets and cull duplicates. There are many tools that easily identify duplicate files.

DAM Platform Acquisition

Partner with a DAM Professional to ID a number of DAM platforms that could fit your organizational needs.

Library Restructuring

After establishing a new folder structure, build it out within your library platform. Copy and paste priority assets into the new structure.

Levels of Complexity

Straightforward

Start your DAM journey by tackling more straightforward tasks such as establishing standards, identifying priority assets, renaming, and restructuring your assets, as well as acquiring a new platform if necessary.

Intermediate

Once you have created and applied your standards and organized your files, you can move on to tasks such as deduplication, establishing a permissions hierarchy, and migrating your assets to their new home and structure.

Complex

Finally, you are ready for the most complex tasks so you can make the best use of your assets. Here, you apply metadata, utilize AI capabilities, extract regular data reports, and tackle the organization of your backlog of archived assets.
